The Gubi Pedrera Coffee Table, from Gubi, was designed as part of a large building refurbishment project. In 1955, the property company behind Gaudi's famous building La Pedrera in Barcelona wanted to convert the attics, which were primarily used for storage, into flats. The company therefore contacted the Spanish architect Barba Corsini.
Corsini designed 13 individual flats, numbered 1-14 due to superstition. The assignment also entailed designing lamps and furniture to complete the overall architectural experience of the flats, hence the design of this coffee table. Pedrera's uniquely shaped steel base and organically shaped hardened glass tabletop exudes contemporary charm. Corsini achieved great international recognition for his architecture and design for La Pedrera.
