The Carl Hansen CH30 Chair, designed by Hans J.Wegner in 1954, showcases the 'Master of Chairs' signature style through its organic form and exceptional craftsmanship. Throughtout his career, Wegner tirelessly optimised the most archetypal piece of furniture resulted in a treasure trove of considered chair designs. The CH30 design makes clear reference to Wegner’s CH23 chair from 1950 and his CH33 chair from 1957, which is evident in the sophisticated craftsmanship seen in the cruciform cover caps on the slightly arched backrest.
The CH30 chair's excellent comfort is due to some ingenuis design decisions – the oval backrest tilts slightly to ensure back support, the rear legs have an elegant, sloping shape which ensures optimal stability, and the form-pressed seat is padded with foam, allowing the user to sit for a long time. The lack of arms on the CH30 chair mean it's perfect for use at a dining table and also ensures the user can switch between different seating positions effortlessly.
Having been out of production for almost 10 years, it has now been reissued by Carl Hansen & Son and is available now in oak or walnut, and upholstered in a variety of fabric options. With its balanced proportions and stringent design, the chair fits perfectly into a modern context in both private homes and public spaces.
