Designed for ultimate comfort and style, these are our pick of the best design classic and modern lounge chairs.

Last updated : 10th December 2021

The lounge chair is the perfect home luxury. Perfectly crafted with comfort in mind, they're the ideal place to relax, stretch out, enjoy a moment alone or read a good book. They don't call it the "lounge" chair for nothing!

Here's a selection of our favourite lounge chairs from across our collection.

1. Eames Lounge Chair

When you sit in the Eames Lounge Chair you'll find that it fits like a glove but did you know the original shape was originally inspired by just that? The legendary design duo Charles and Ray Eames actually modelled their now-iconic lounge chair on the shape of an old baseball catchers mitt.

The Eames Lounge Chair is the epitome of a design classic in furniture terms and is regarded as one of the most (if not the most) iconic designs of the 20th century. It's also fan favourite among Utility Design customers.

2. Fritz Hansen Egg Chair

The Fritz Hansen Egg Chair from Fritz Hansen was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen - a project for which Jacobsen designed everything from the building itself right down to the furniture and bathroom taps.

Since then, the Egg Chair has become a design classic - not least because of its commercial popularity. With its instantly recognisable silhouette and star shaped swivel aluminium base the Egg Chair also features a tilt feature and, as an extra option, an automatic return feature which places the chair back in its original position when the sitter gets up to leave.

3. Knoll Womb Chair

Another of Eero Saarinen's classic designs is the Womb chair, manufactured today by Knoll. Designed in 1946 the Womb Chair was designed at Florence Knoll's request for "a chair that was like a basket full of pillows, something I could really curl up in." so do we really need to say any more about how comfortable it is?

The Womb Chair was designed to facilitate a relaxed sitting posture providing emotional comfort and a sense of security - hence the name "Womb".

4. Vitra Grand Repos

The Vitra Grand Repos Lounge Chair is an extremely comfortable chair with optional footstool designed by Antonio Citterio. It's the big brother to the Repos Lounge Chair and redefines the concept of comfort with each angle sculptured for maximum relaxation.

Its high backrest and enticing armrests and wings are packed with generous amounts of padding, cocooning the body in a capsule with a pillow of soft feathers, supporting the head. A contemporary and extremely comfortable lounge chair worthy of any living space.

Part of Welling's "About A Chair" family for Danish design brand HAY, the AAL93 is simple, comfortable and sits as strongly on its own as it does surrounded by other members of the family.

6. Gubi Bat Lounge Chair

Referencing the curved shape of a bat's wingspan, the Gubi Bat chair, designed by iconic design duo GamFratesi is a worthy successor of the ever-popular Beetle Chair - also manufactured by Gubi.

With Scandinavian simplicity and functionality, the chair expresses a strong minimalist idiom. The wide range of upholstery options and different bases make the Bat Lounge Chair an ideal seating solution for commercial spaces, as well as the home.

As the name implies, the Swoon lounge chair has the ability to enrapture on first sight. The gentle curves and plush cushions offer an open invitation to lounge in luxury and with an ottoman to match, it's the perfect way to make your space cosy and sophisticated at once.

Designed by Space Copenhagen for their studio space in the Danish capital, Swoon's elegant aesthetic reflects their flair for sculptural designs that intuitively integrate into any space, whether it be a high-end hotel or private home. Designed by Yngve Ekstrom in 1956 the Lamino Lounge Chair from Swedese boasts one of the most comfortable sits you're likely to find. The design puts the human form front and centre with an elongated backrest that perfectly supports your back and head.

Epitomising the period completely the Lamino has a refined timber frame - in either oiled oak, beech or lacquered walnut. With a vast range of fabric choices, from the classic and most popular Sheepskin to the beautiful weaves of Bute Tweed or supersoft Elmo leather the Lamino Chair is one which you can create to fit your own exact interior decor scheme.

9. Carl Hansen & Son CH25 Chair

The CH25 Lounge Chair was one of Hans J. Wegner’s first designs for Carl Hansen, in 1950. It was crafted during a time of new ideas; among them being Wegner's vision of crafting furniture from woven papercord, considered a substitute during the war. Its enduring appeal means it has been in constant production ever since.

The classic Scandinavian style lends itself to any room of your home. Perfect in a sunny conservatory, a cosy lounge or relaxed bedroom. The high-quality materials and craftsmanship ensure the CH25’s longevity - it’s a family heirloom in waiting.
