The Akari Light Sculptures (1951) by Isamu Noguchi are a series of luminaires, handcrafted from traditional shoji paper by Japanese artisans. ‘The harshness of electricity is thus transformed through the magic of paper back to the light of our origin – the sun.’ (Noguchi)
The Akari series is inspired by the Japanese word for 'Light'
The Akari 9A Floor Lamp represents therefore both illumination and physical lightness, with the combination of its design and the way the light filters through the lightweight paper form. The Akari 9A Floor Lamp is created from washi paper and bamboo ribbing and is supported by a metal frame.
